ABSTRACT: The two Eocene formations—Rus and Dammam are identified by the facies investigation of the Eocene rocks found in South Samawa. The Dammam Formation is incredibly important geologically as it covers a large area, much of southern Iraq. It is the main source of the aquifers in the area. A thorough investigation was carried out with 58 samples taken from the S-7 well to understand its sedimentology. Rocks consisting of pores limestone and dolomitic limestone. The analysis identified five main microfacies in the study area, each of which provided a different insight into the makeup of the area. These microfacies, which include Floatstone, Rudstone, Wackestone, Packstone, and Lime-Mudstone, all contribute to a thorough knowledge of the sedimentary composition of the formation. In addition, nine other sub-microfacies were discovered during this comprehensive investigation. The Rus Formation has only one recognized environment for this mixed carbonate-evaporitic unit (inner ramp), which is the lagoon to the sabkha environment. In contrast various habitats, such as peritidal inner ramp regions, lagoons, shoals, restricted marine platforms, and open marine inner platforms, are where the Dammam Formation is found to have been deposited. This variation highlights the difficulty of the past of the formation and the different environments in which its sediments have gathered over Eocene time. Based on sequence stratigraphic research and microfacies analysis, five third-order cycles may be found in the Eocene succession and two sequence boundaries are found in the section. | ||
